LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Community leaders, lawmakers, and advocates gathered in the southwest Las Vegas valley today for “Breaking the Stigma,” a special event recognizing Period Poverty Awareness Week.
Hosted by The Wellness Box Foundation at Mothership Coffee, the community panel focused on the growing issue of period poverty and the need for greater access to menstrual products and education.
The discussion featured Wellness Box Foundation co-founder Chloe Kim, 17, along with state Sen. Rochelle Nguyen and Assemblywoman Hanadi Nadeem. They shared perspectives on how government leaders and grassroots organizations can collaborate locally to address the issue.
Since launching in 2022, The Wellness Box Foundation has distributed more than 20,000 wellness kits across seven states and four countries, providing essential menstrual products and resources to individuals and families in need.
Kim also recently wrote her first book, “Penny’s First Period,” a children’s book created to help young girls navigate menstruation in an educational, age-appropriate, and empowering way.
