Period package party
Students Against Period Poverty (SAPP) is inviting teens to help make care packages to help those experiencing financial hardship. These care packages will have menstrual and hygiene products, as well as handmade crafts for donation to a local shelter.
SAPP’s period care package party is set for Sept. 25, 4-6 p.m. at the Milpitas Library. Registration is required to https://bayareane.ws/4dDYTSb
Teens interested in gaining service hours must complete the volunteer application at https://bayareane.ws/3UIbH3B. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old to gain service hours credit.
Meritorious recognition
Eleven Milpitas High School seniors are among about 16,000 high school students in the graduating class of 2027 — less than 1% of U.S. seniors —named semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program.
The semifinalists, announced on Sept. 9, qualified based on their scores on the Preliminary SAT. About 95 percent are expected to attain finalist standing on the strength of an application detailing academic performance, participation in activities, employment and leadership. About half the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, to be announced in the spring.
The semifinalists from Milpitas High are Ishaan Choudhary, Jason Dang-Tran, Anvi Gadkari, Allison Hao, Aarjav Jain, Mihika Kedia, Aarohi `Kulkarni, Neha Meher, Amy Nguyen, Prisha Sabhnani and Ayush Thoren.
