Designing Menstrual Care for Women Surviving Without Running Water or Dry Storage
Standard cardboard box donations disintegrate in Pacific Northwest rain and require clean sink access. Our $45 Street Outreach Sanctuary Pack is purpose-built with street medicine nurses for immediate waterless hygiene and moisture-sealed protection.
1. Why Conventional Product Drives Fail Unhoused Menstruators
For women and youth experiencing unsheltered homelessness in King, Pierce, Snohomish, and Spokane Counties, menstruation is a monthly medical and logistical emergency. Federal nutrition assistance (SNAP/EBT and WIC) cannot be used to purchase menstrual supplies, and public restrooms are frequently locked overnight. Furthermore, well-intentioned donations of loose tampons, unsealed cardboard pad boxes, or menstrual cups that require boiling water create severe infection hazards when a person has no access to clean hands or running water.
2. Inside the $45 Waterless Street Outreach Sanctuary Pack
Co-designed with Pacific Northwest street medicine nurses and transitional housing coordinators, every $45 Street Outreach Sanctuary Pack contains:
- Matte Charcoal Ripstop Waterproof Zippered Sanctuary Pouch: Protects clean supplies from Pacific Northwest rain, damp tents, and backpack spills while providing discreet, dignified carrying.
- Moisture-Sealed 100% GOTS Organic Cotton Day & Overnight Pads: External-use organic cotton pads (never internal cups or tampons requiring sterile handwashing) sealed in individual waterproof plant-based wrappers.
- Waterless pH-Balanced Botanical Cleansing Wipes: Clinical-grade, fragrance-free, alcohol-free perineal cleansing wipes enabling safe hygiene when showers and sinks are unavailable.
- Discreet Kraft & Biodegradable Disposal Bags + Bilingual Resource Card: Allows hygienic sealed disposal and provides zero-barrier access to shelter restocks (`Zero ID Required`).
